D.C. might see less snow this winter compared to previous years, possibly as a result of global warming and other causes, according to The Washington Post.
D.C. gets an average of 18 inches of snow per year, according to the Post. When the Post's Capital Weather Gang looked at averages in 15-year intervals, there was a notable decrease in snowfall. From 1964-1978, D.C. received an average of 17 inches of snow, an average of 16.7 inches of snow per year between 1979 and 1993 and 13.8 inches per year between 1994 and 2008.
D.C. saw brief periods of very light snowfall during the early and middle parts of November. The Capital Weather Gang predicts the District will have between 12 and 18 inches of snow this winter, which is slightly below average for the area.
