An avalanche at a ski resort in northeastern Turkey killed at least ten people Sunday, according to CNN.com.
The mountaineers killed in the avalanche were part of a group that was hiking at the resort in Zigana.
Gumushane Governor Enver Salihoglu told CNN-Turk that at least seven people had been rescued. At least two were hospitalized.
Avalanches typically occur when solid layers of snow rest on top of a weaker layer, CNN.com reported.
A documentary filmmaker who had been working near the resort told CNN-Turk that rising temperatures might have increased the risk of avalanches in the area.
The temperatures could also make conditions more dangerous for rescue workers, CNN.com reported.
