Md. car accident kills two

A pileup involving 42 vehicles resulted in two deaths Monday near the border of Frederick and Washington counties in Maryland, according to The Washington Post.

A dozen of the injured went to Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown, Md., and many of the rest went to a Hagerstown Red Cross shelter, where they were given food and counseling. The Red Cross also provided motel rooms for five families who unable to find a ride home.

The crashes began around 12:30 p.m. Monday on South Mountain, about ten miles west of Frederick on Interstate 70. Although the investigation was on-going at press time, state police spokeswoman Elena Russo told The Post that snowfall might have been a factor.

Police are withholding the names of the people killed pending notification of their families.
