I was very disappointed that The Eagle failed to write a review for, or even cover, the Department Of Performing Arts' recent production of Noel Coward's "Hay Fever" in the Scene section of their publication. I understand that it is not possible for this paper to cover everything, but I feel that more effort could be made in terms of covering on-campus theater.
This is not meant to slight AU Players - whose last three major shows have received significant attention from the Eagle, and deservingly so - but rather to champion an equilibrium, a balance between covering the student-run theatrical endeavors and those produced by the faculty of the Department of Performing Arts. This discrepancy of coverage is somewhat frustrating, especially given the amount of effort that goes into any theatrical endeavor, as well as the fact that the campus newspaper neglected entirely to cover a production starring students at AU.
Again, AU Players deserves massive amounts of praise for their work, but that applause should not come at the expense of acknowledging other students' dramatic undertakings, which are equally valid and deserve equal mention, especially in a paper specifically aimed at AU's student body.
