Several inmates at the Prince George's County jail disabled locks to escape from their cells Friday, assaulting guards on the level below, according to The Washington Post.
At least eight prisoners escaped from their cells, where the locks could be disabled with plastic utensils or deodorant caps, the Post reported. The prisoners, who had cells on the second tier of the cellblock, then began throwing chairs and trash cans at the guards on the ground floor.
The disturbance was ended after guards called for reinforcements. No serious injuries were reported, according to the Post.
Lt. Curtis Knowles, president of the Prince George's Correctional Officers Association, told the Post the riot was in response to a week-long lockdown that had prevented the inmates from viewing the Super Bowl.
