MPD seeks warrant in Levy case

D.C. police are working to get an arrest warrant for a Salvadoran immigrant they claim murdered Chandra Levy, The Washington Post reported.

Levy was a 24-year-old intern for the Bureau of Prisons when she went missing in May 2001. She was found dead in Rock Creek Park a year later. Police initially focused their attention on then-Rep. Gary Condit, D-Calif., with whom she was having an affair, according to the Post.

Law enforcement sources told the Post that police now believe Ingmar Guandique was the murderer. Guandique is currently in prison in California for attacking two women in Rock Creek Park with a knife around the time Levy went missing.

Levy's parents told the Post police informed them on Friday that they expected to make an arrest within a couple of days.
