A woman in Oregon last week received an invitation to her nephew's graduation in New Jersey 22 years after it was originally sent, the Associated Press reported.
Theresa Schlossarek of La Grande, Ore., did not attend the ceremony, which occurred in 1987, because she had not received the invitation. Her family assumed she did not come because of the distance, according to the AP.
Peter Hass, the spokesman for the United States Postal Service's Portland district, told the AP that the letter might have been sent to the wrong address or caught in machinery. Regardless of how old the mail is, the USPS is required to deliver it if it is postmarked.
