Cannon finishes season undefeated as Eagles falter

Nationally ranked AU junior wrestler Mike Cannon finished the season with a perfect 26-0 record Feb. 15 against Bucknell University, but it wasn't enough to lift the Eagles past a strong Bison squad.

Cannon, ranked second in the nation in the 174-pound weight class, finished the day with a 6-0 decision over the Bison's Riccio, while the Eagles narrowly lost 19-17.

The Eagles began the match down 7-0, losing key bouts in the 125-pound and 133-pound weight classes. Sophomore Matt Mariacher brought the Eagles back into the match with a 9-5 decision in the 141-pound weight class.

In one of the key matches of the day, Bucknell's Kevin LeValley upset No. 12 nationally ranked AU junior Kyle Borshoff 4-1 in the 149-pound weight class.

The Eagles had a chance to tie the match up with a fall in the heavyweight bout. Quinton Pruett won the 11-2 major decision, but it was not enough to tie up the match score.

The Eagles finished the season 11-6 overall and 4-2 in the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association. The EIWA will be held March 7-8 in the Palestra at the University of Pennsylvania.
