AU will compete in the America's Greenest Campus contest, according to a Student Government Facebook message.
The online contest is the "first nationwide contest among colleges to reduce the carbon footprints of their students, faculty, alumni and staff," according to the campaign's Web site.
The SG urged students to sign up on americasgreenestcampus.com with their AU e-mail addresses. From there, a user profile will be created so students can track their carbon footprint until Oct. 5, 2009. There will be two first-place cash prizes of $5,000 - one for the school with the most participants and one for the school with the largest percentage of reduced carbon emissions.
