Thursday, March 26 Glasvegas 8 p.m. WHERE: Black Cat, 1811 14th St. N.W. METRO: U Street/Cardozo/African-American Civil War Memorial (green and yellow lines) INFO: What do you get when you cross Glasgow and Las Vegas? Glasvegas' wall of sound that only stops when it reaches the boundaries of the Scottish highlands. COST: $15

"Netsuke: Miniature Art in the Palm of Your Hand" 9 a.m-5 p.m. WHERE: Japan Information and Culture Center, 1155 21st St. N.W. METRO: Dupont Circle (red line) INFO: Before pockets came to Japan, men carried pouches fastened with netsuke, intricately carved wooden toggles. This lost art is on display in conjunction with the Cherry Blossom Festival. COST: Free

Friday, March 27 Death by Sexy CD release party 9 p.m. WHERE: Black Cat, 1811 14th St. N.W. METRO: U Street/Cardozo/African-American Civil War Memorial (green and yellow lines) INFO: This fighty D.C. post-punk band releases their new album backed by The Blackjacks and Cobra Collective. COST: $10

"Hombre" 7 p.m. WHERE: AFI Silver Theatre, 8633 Colesville Rd., Silver Spring, Md. METRO: Silver Spring (red line) INFO: As a part of their Paul Newman series, AFI Silver presents this classic Western where Newman is forced to come to terms with his identity as a white man raised by Apaches. COST: $10

Saturday, March 28 Capitol Punishment 7 p.m. WHERE: Kay Spiritual Life Center - AU, 4400 Massachusetts Ave. N.W. METRO: Tenleytown-AU (red line) INFO: WVAU broadens AU's musical horizons once again, this time with Baltimore art-rock quartet Ponytail, New Jersey devils Screaming Females and the District's own Mittenfields. COST: Free

Asobi Seksu 9:30 p.m. WHERE: Rock and Roll Hotel, 1353 H St. N.E. METRO: Union Station (red line) INFO: Brooklyn dream poppers Asobi Seksu - whose name means "casual sex" in Japanese - are sure to make for a fun romp at the hotel. COST: $12

Sunday, March 29 Cherry Blossom Photo Safari 3-5:30 p.m. WHERE: FDR Memorial Bookstore METRO: Smithsonian (blue and orange lines) INFO: Washington Photo Safari offers this special trip to teach photographers of all levels the best ways to capture the season's best and brightest. COST: $59

"After the Garden" 7 p.m. WHERE: Miss Pixie's Backroom Palace, 1626 14th St. N.W. METRO: U Street/Cardozo/African-American Civil War Memorial (green and yellow lines) INFO: See Ganymede Arts' first production under their new name and in their new space, and watch the cult protagonist of "Grey Gardens" come to life. COST: $25

Monday, March 30 "Bookends: The Book as Art" 9 a.m.-5 p.m. WHERE: Pyramid Atlantic Art Center, 8230 Georgia Ave. N.W., Silver Spring, Md. METRO: Silver Spring (red line) INFO: Crack open the spines of a few of your new favorite tomes at this exhibit that rewrites the book as art. COST: Free

"On the Origin of Species (After Darwin)" 9 a.m.-5 p.m. WHERE: National Academy of Sciences, 2100 C St. N.W. METRO: Foggy Bottom-GWU (blue and orange lines) INFO: Teacher and conceptual artist Tim Rollins and his students, known collectively as K.O.S., reinterpret Darwin's essential work through art. COST: Free

Tuesday, March 31 "Dancing Alfonso" Noon WHERE: Library of Congress, 101 Independence Ave. S.E. METRO: Capitol South (blue and orange lines) INFO: This Israeli documentary explores the emotional depth of the lives of the elderly as viewed through the lens of a flamenco class. COST: Free

Balkan Beat Box 7 p.m. WHERE: 9:30 club, 815 V St. N.W. METRO: U Street/Cardozo/African-American Civil War Memorial (green and yellow lines) INFO: Gypsy punk combines traditional folk music with the relentless musicality of punk rock; Balkan Beat Box takes it a step further and builds a bridge between world music traditions and hip-hop. COST: $20
