AU field hockey won their second game of the season 2-1 over their yearly rival Richmond University.
Defense was key for the Lady Eagles as they limited Richmond to only six shots, of which only two made to goalie Alyssa Poorman. On top of their tight defense, AU was able to generate the most offense they have all season. The control was not limited to just one period either as they had 10 shots in the first period and seven in the second.
"Our team played extremely well today," Head Coach Steve Jennings told AU athletics. "We played excellent hockey this afternoon and look forward to continuing that success on the practice field this week and throughout the season."
To go along with their strong offense and defense, the team dominated corners having 15 while Richmond had only one. While the team was only able to convert on one of them, it was the go ahead goal by senior Savannah Graybill.
Graybill and junior Christine Fingerhuth have been the team's best players this year. Fingerhuth has two goals this season on 10 shots, while Graybill has eight shots and two goals. Both players emerged towards the end of last year in Patriot Leauge play and are looking to be picking up where they left off.
The Lady Eagles play their next game against Michigan State in Ohio. Their next home game is Sept. 18 against California at 3 p.m.
