Metro brief

Seventh Metro suicide since June

A 15-year-old D.C. resident died after jumping in front of a Metro train on Thursday at the Columbia Heights station, according to Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority officials.

The teen jumped in front of a yellow line train at 1:55 p.m. as the train pulled into the station heading downtown, according to a statement from WMATA. The teenager acted alone and there was no foul play, according to the Washington Post.

The station was closed until 2:40 p.m. as emergency officials responded to the incident. The accident disrupted service for more than two hours and trains were single-tracked through the Columbia Heights station, according to WMATA. Service returned to normal at 4:15 p.m.

The teenager, who is not being named by Metro authorities because he is a minor, is the seventh person to jump in front of a train since June, according to Metro officials. WMATA will be making a stronger effort to decrease Metro suicides, according to the Post.
