Police blotter

Oct. 7

A resident assistant reported he was in his room in Letts Hall when he heard a noise from the hallway. He opened his door and noticed several individuals punching holes in hallway ceiling tiles. The individuals ran when he yelled at them. Another hole was punched in a tile as they ran. The resident assistant chased the group and caught Student #1. Student #1 indicated he punched ceiling tiles but claimed not to know any of the other individuals in the group. Student #1 stated he drank rum at an off campus location. The resident assistant recognized another individual in the group, Student #2. Aramark was contacted and a 2fix ticket was initiated.

A student left belongings in an office on the sixth floor of the Washington College of Law and was notified later her bank card was used to make a fraudulent charge.

A hinge fell from a door in the Ward Circle Building. Video footage suggested it was not the result of an intentional act. Repairs have been started.

Public Safety met with student #1 and student #2. Student #1 stated on Oct. 6, at approximately 12:30 p.m., he saw graffiti on a pipe in a Terrace level men’s restroom in McKinley. Aramark was contacted to remove it.

Oct. 8

Public Safety observed two individuals running in front of the Eagle’s Nest. One was wearing only underwear, socks and shoes. He said he saw others doing the same thing and thought it would be fun. Public Safety advised him to put his clothing on.

Public Safety discovered graffiti written with black ink in two bathroom stalls in a basement women’s restroom in McKinley. Aramark was contacted to remove the graffiti.

The reporting person found material, which appeared to have been burned in the Jacobs Ball Field Area. Upon sweeping the material away, he discovered burn marks on the turf field.

Public Safety responded to a first floor men’s bathroom in Letts Hall for a report of two sick individuals. Two resident assistants reported having found individual #1 sleeping on the floor in a hallway and individual #2 vomiting in a men’s bathroom. Student #3 stated both individuals were visiting her from another university and were intoxicated upon their arrival at AU. Individual #4 stated she came to AU with the two individuals and that the two individuals started drinking vodka at approximately 7:00 p.m. A resident director responded to the scene and determined the two individuals were able to leave on their own. A medical refusal form was signed.

Oct. 9

Two resident assistants reported finding a student vomiting on the floor of an Anderson Hall men’s bathroom. Upon Public Safety arrival the student was vomiting and barely conscious. The sick student stated he had between 12 and 15 drinks at a location off campus. A resident director responded to the scene and requested the D.C. Fire Department be contacted. The sick student was transported to the hospital.

At 1:59 a.m., Public Safety responded to a fire alarm in the Sports Center lobby. The panel indicated, “Sprinkler flow lobby stairs.” No signs of smoke, fire or water flow were found. Facilities Management responded and determined the activation was a malfunction. The panel was reset.

A resident assistant reported graffiti on a wall, door and elevator in the sixth floor of Anderson Hall. Aramark was contacted to have it removed.

An unattended laptop computer was taken from a classroom in Ward Circle Building. No sensitive information was on the computer.

Public Safety responded to a fire alarm on the south side of the third floor of Letts Hall. The panel indicated a smoke detector was activated. Public Safety found a moderate amount of smoke in a third floor south kitchen, an oven on and burnt food and a paper microwave container in the oven. No other property was damaged. Aramark responded to ventilated the area and clean the oven. The alarm was reset.

DCFD transported a sick person from the Letts/Anderson Quad to the hospital.

Public Safety responded to a report of two intoxicated individuals in a vehicle in the roadway in front of the Beeghly Chemistry building. Public Safety found student #1 and #2 unconscious in the back seat of a vehicle. Student #3 stated he drove them back to campus from a fraternity function in Alexandria, Va. He stated student #1 and #2 had arrived at the function together at approximately 6:30 p.m. and student #1 was not allowed into the function due to her level of intoxication. They advised him they began consuming alcoholic beverages at approximately 6:00 p.m. (prior to the function) but did not identify where they had been drinking. He volunteered to drive them back to campus. Public Safety knocked on the vehicle window. Student #1 and #2 exited the vehicle and began vomiting. DCFD transported them to the hospital.

Student #2 reported having seen student #1 run down the hallway on the fifth floor of McDowell Hall, strike her head on a wall and fall to the ground. Upon Public Safety arrival, Student #1 was conscious, alert and bleeding from her head. Student #3 reported having seen student #1 stumbling around the hallways prior to this incident. Student #3 stated she was aware student #1 had been drinking but did not know when, where or how much. DCFD transported student #1, accompanied by student #3, to the hospital.

Oct. 10

A student arrived at the Public Safety building confused, obviously intoxicated and had difficulty remembering his address. He could not explain how he arrived on campus or where he had been drinking. DCFD was contacted. When DCFD arrived, the student took off running.

Public Safety responded to a fire alarm in the fourth floor, south stairwell of Letts Hall. The annunciator panel indicated a pull station had been activated. No signs of smoke or fire were found. The alarm was reset. Students reported hearing the alarm station being pulled and someone running towards Anderson Hall via the connecting bridge.

Public Safety responded to a report of an intoxicated individual inside McDowell Hall. Student #2 was concerned about his extremely intoxicated roommate, student #1. Upon Public Safety arrival, Student #1 was vomiting and barely responsive. Student #2 indicated student #1 left the room at approximately 1900 to go drinking on the south side of campus. DCFD transported Student #1, accompanied by Student #2, to the hospital.

A resident assistant reported a plastic door cover to a pull station screamer in the first floor of Capital Hall was broken. The cover was on the floor, and the screamer alarm was broken. A student reported the damage to the resident assistant. A 2Fix ticket was initiated to have it repaired.

Oct. 11

A student in Anderson Hall reported seeing an individual who had previously been barred from campus. Public Safety and a resident assistant located the individual. Public Safety arrested him. Reportedly, the individual was aware of the barring notice but came to the campus at the invitation of another student.

DCFD transported a sick person, accompanied by her roommate, from Anderson Hall to the hospital.

Public Safety responded to a report of a sick person in Battelle. The individual signed a medical refusal form.

Graffiti (a curse word) was discovered engraved into gray paint on a stall wall in a men’s restroom on the second floor of Bender Library. The reporting person initiated a 2Fix ticket to have it repaired.

Oct. 12

Public Safety, DCFD and a resident director responded to a report of a sick person in Nebraska Hall. A medical refusal form was signed.

Public Safety responded to Whole Foods and met with MPD, a store manager and a student. Reportedly, the student took merchandise from the store, concealed them in a bag and walked past the cash registers without paying for them. The manager did not want to press charges but wanted the student barred from the store. MPD gave Public Safety the barring notice. Public Safety escorted the student to his residence.

Student #1 reported someone locked their bicycle to their bike outside of the Mary Graydon Center. Public Safety cut the lock to free Student #1’s bicycle and took the second bicycle to Public Safety for safe keeping. Later, Student #2 came to Public Safety to pick up his bicycle and apologized for the inconvenience.

Oct. 13

A locker malfunction in the Sports Center kept it from opening for an individual attempting to retrieve his belongings. The locker was damage by staff using a hammer to open the locker for the individual.

A complainant noticed fraudulent charges on a bank card. The card is still in his possession. The charges were made at an online video game site.

Graffiti was discovered on three pillars in the parking garage of the new School of International Service Building. Two were done with chalk. One was done with paint. Contacts were made to have it removed.
