Police blotter: March 29

March 18

Department of Public Safety officials saw individual #1 running with blood on his face, scrapes on his elbows, and wearing no shoes at 12:43 a.m. on Massachusetts Avenue between campus and 45th Street. Individual #1 reported he was conversing with individual #2 while walking with him and individuals #3, #4 and #5. When individual #1 asked individual #2 about the fraternity of which he was a member, individual #2 became angry. Reportedly, individual #2 grabbed individual #1, forced him to the ground and banged his head on the ground. Individual #1 claimed not to have struck individual #2 at any time. D.C. Fire Department transported individual #1 to the hospital.

Public Safety located individual #2 in front of Leonard Hall. Individual #2 stated he drank six shots of rum at an off-campus location. He stated he and individual #1 got into a verbal altercation, which turned physical. Individual #2 claimed individual #1 struck him in the jaw first at which point individual #2 pushed individual #1 to the ground and banged his head on the ground. DCFD treated individual #2 for a minor cut to his elbow. Individual #2 was arrested. Suspected marijuana was found in his pocket. Metropolitan Police Department transported him to the hospital and then Second District for processing. He was barred from AU property.

An individual was seen throwing a piece of meat from his sandwich at a Public Safety vehicle occupied by Public Safety personnel at 2:13 a.m. outside McKinley Building. The meat struck a back window.

DCFD transported an injured person in the Mary Graydon Center to the hospital at 10:31 a.m.

A student reported she locked her door when exiting her room in Letts Hall at 1:38 p.m. Three of her roommate’s guests were still in the room sleeping. The student returned. The guests were no longer sleeping. Her laptop computer was gone.

Four five-gallon jugs of water were reported as taken from inside Hurst Hall at 3:28 p.m. One identified suspect was seen emptying one jug into a small pool near the Main Quad. An unidentified suspect was seen running with a jug from Hurst Hall towards the Main Quad.

Public Safety responded to a noise complaint from 47th Street at 11:47 p.m. MPD was also contacted. Voices could be heard from within the residence and an individual on the steps to the house. While waiting for MPD’s arrival, 15 individuals left the residence and the noise was reduced significantly. Public Safety left the scene at 11:37 p.m. There was no noise at that time. MPD had not arrived prior to Public Safety’s departure.

MPD and Public Safety responded to a noise complaint from Massachusetts Avenue at 11:06 p.m. Several individuals were seen entering and exiting the premises. Noise from the house was heard on the street. MPD spoke with students #1 and #2. Student #1 identified himself as the owner of the residence, however he is listed as a resident of Centennial Hall. Student #2 was hosting the party. MPD advised them to end the party due to the noise violation. Several individuals exited the residence. Officers left the area at 11:15 p.m. MPD and Public Safety responded to the residence upon receiving another complaint that several individuals returned to the residence at 11:35 p.m. Public Safety saw individuals entering and exiting the home. No noise was heard. MPD did not contact the occupants since no noise was heard.

March 19

A student came to Public Safety to report a theft of her AUID from the computer lab in Kogod School of Business at 12:32 p.m., which occurred in 2009. The student reported she entered a computer lab and placed her AUID on a table. Later, she realized the card was taken when she needed it to print copies. She advised there was no money on the card.

Public Safety and Facilities Management responded to a fire alarm that was reportedly activated due to a sprinkler flow in Letts Hall at 4:32 p.m. No smoke or fire was found. The activation was determined to be the result of a malfunction.

DCFD transported a sick person from outside McKinley Building to the hospital at 4:46 p.m.

March 20

A suspect slapped a victim exiting Capital Hall at 2:52 a.m. on a buttock. When the victim demanded the suspect never touch him again, the suspect became irate and cursed at the victim. Public Safety spoke with the suspect. The suspect appeared intoxicated. The suspect indicated he slapped the victim but denied doing anything wrong. The suspect screamed obscenities. The victim indicated he had many other difficult encounters with the suspect during rounds, which appear to occur when the suspect is intoxicated.

Two individuals were seen placing a bollard in their vehicle at Letts/Anderson Quad and driving off campus at 2:57 a.m.

DCFD and Public Safety responded to a report of a sick person in Anderson Hall at 7:38 a.m. The individual signed a medical refusal form.

DCFD transported a sick person in Leonard Hall to the hospital at 9:50 a.m.

DCFD transported a sick person in Hughes Hall to the hospital at 7:40 p.m.

March 21

An employee reported finding an individual on the second floor of 3201 New Mexico Ave. NW at 6:41 a.m. Public Safety responded. Reportedly, someone exiting the building allowed the individual to enter. Public Safety issued the individual a barring notice.

Public Safety discovered graffiti written with white paint on a support pillar at 10:18 a.m. Facilities Management was notified to have it removed. The same word was discovered written on several bus stop shelters and traffic signs on Nebraska Avenue off campus.

An unsecured scooter was taken from the bike rack by the Tunnel shops at 11:51 p.m.

March 22

An unsecured scooter was reported as taken from near a bicycle rack at 4:41 p.m.

A scooter was taken from a bicycle rack by the Tunnel shops. MPD responded and took a report.

Two students indicated they noticed the smell of something burning in an Anderson Hall’s laundry room at 11:13 p.m. Subsequently, they extinguished a fire in a trashcan with a fire extinguisher. A fire investigator responded and classified the incident as an “Incendiary Fire” at 6 a.m. Aramark responded to ventilate and clean the area.

March 23

A student was on her way to a bathroom at 2:17 a.m. when she noticed paper burning on a resident assistant’s door in Letts Hall. She knocked on the door. The resident assistant opened the door and knocked the burning paper to the floor to extinguish the fire. Public Safety also noticed a small corner of a newspaper burned, which was attached to a bulletin board next to the resident assistant’s room.

DCFD transported a sick person in Federal Hall to the hospital at 2:30 a.m.

March 24

A backpack containing a wallet and other property was taken from a storage bin in the Davenport Lounge at 6:45 p.m. The wallet contained bank cards. Fraudulent charges were made to some of the cards. MPD responded and initiated a report.
