Police Blotter: April 12

April 1?

Department of Public Safety officials responded to a noise complaint from a neighbor on 43rd Street at 3:39 a.m. The neighbor did not wish to be contacted. No noise was heard upon arrival. Public Safety noticed approximately 100 plastic forks had been stuck in the yard and bushes were covered with toilet paper. Several minutes later, approximately 18 individuals walked down the street to the house. The group entered the house. Five minutes later, the group exited the house and stood by the street nearby. Public Safety requested the Metropolitan Police Department respond due to the noise being made as the group opened and closed doors. Several minutes later the group headed south of 43rd Street. Public Safety waited another 20 minutes and then cleared the scene at 4:35 a.m. MPD did not arrive prior to DPS’s departure. ?

?A laptop computer was stolen from second floor of the library at 10:12 a.m. The computer had been left unattended on the floor next to a desk. ?

?A painting was stolen from the Katzen Arts Center at 10:38 a.m. The painting had been hung on a wall for display. ??

Public Safety responded to a report of an injured, intoxicated individual in the tunnel at 11:44 p.m. The individual was transported by the D.C. Fire Department to the hospital. 

April 2??

A resident director reported student #1 and student #2 entered Hughes Hall at 1:47 a.m. Student #1 vomited near the front desk. Student #2 would not provide student #1’s identification to the resident director. Upon Public Safety’s arrival, student #1 was conscious. Her speech was slurred. Student #1 stated she consumed three shots of rum. She would not disclose the location where she drank. DCFD responded. Student #2 interfered by stating student #1 did not need medical attention and interfered with the resident director providing DCFD with student #1’s information. Public Safety asked student #2 to leave the area several times. Student #2 refused to do so. DCFD transported student #1 to the hospital. 

?Student #1 exited a room in Anderson Hall and left the door unsecured at 10:07 a.m. Student #2 was asleep in the room. When student #1 returned to the room, he discovered his laptop computer was taken. ??

DCFD transported a sick person from the Mary Graydon Center to the hospital at 12:20 p.m. Aramark was contacted to clean the area.

Public Safety discovered graffiti in a men’s restroom in the Ward Circle Building at 9:34 a.m.   ??

April 3??A resident assistant reported individual #1 and individual #2 started exchanging words inside McDonald’s at 3:32 a.m. Both individuals stepped outside. Individual #1 punched individual #2 in the face. Public Safety responded and saw five individuals tightly crowded together. Public Safety gave a command to “stop” and saw one individual bleeding from the nose. All the individuals fled in different directions. The resident assistant was able to identify individual #1. Individual #2 ran towards Butler Garden. He was not apprehended or identified.

Public Safety responded to a report of an injured person in Bender Arena at 4:47 a.m. The individual signed a medical refusal form.

An unattended coat was taken from the bleachers in Bender Arena at 6:08 a.m. ??

A staff member reported hearing a smashing sound in the hallway of the Terrace Dining Room at 7:43 p.m. and observed broken glass from a fire valve station. A 2FIX ticket was issued to replace the glass. ?

April 4?

?Student #1 left her room in Anderson Hall for a brief period of time at 7:51 a.m. She left the door unlocked. Her roommate, student #2, was sleeping. Student #2 woke up, heard movement in the room and saw an unidentified male exiting the room. Student #2 noticed her laptop computer missing from her desk. The computer did not contain any sensitive information. ??

Student #2 gave student #1 her phone number at 11:20 a.m. They periodically exchanged text messages. Student #1’s messages became “overzealous and aggressive” and continually asked student #2 to go on a date with him. She replied by advising him to cease all contact with her or she would notify police. Public Safety contacted student #1 and advised him to have no further contact with student #2. 

?A Wesley Residence Housing Director reported noise possibly from AU students off campus at 10:07 a.m. Reportedly, from 12:01 a.m. to 1:00 a.m, residents in Carroll Hall heard loud bass, which sounded like band music, coming from the campus. ?

?Public Safety and MPD responded to a noise complaint on 43rd Street at 1:20 a.m. Upon arrival, no noise was detected emanating from the residence. MPD contacted the residents of the house. 

April 5??

A door handle was discovered to have been ripped and taken from a door in Capital Hall at 11:02 a.m. ???

DCFD, MPD and Public Safety responded to motor vehicle accident in the Katzen Parking Area at 1:26 p.m. A vehicle struck three fixed columns in the parking garage. An airbag deployed. There was extensive body damage to the vehicle. The driver was transported to the hospital. There was minor damage to the columns. ??

Facilities Management freed an individual from a stuck elevator in the School of International Service building at 3:16 p.m. No injuries were reported. 

?Two individuals reported a fight in progress between several individuals playing football behind the Kogod School of Business and the Battelle-Tompkins Building at 4:55 p.m. No altercation was noticed upon Public Safety’s arrival. Student #1 was out of breath and bleeding from his elbow. Student #1 stated he injured himself playing football. Student #2 stated he just arrived in the area and was about to join the football game. Both students denied any fight occurred. Student #1 signed a medical refusal form. ??

A student used her bank card near campus at 2:30 p.m. Then she went to the Washington College of Law Library where she left her things unattended on a table from 3 to 3:25 p.m.  At 3:30 p.m., she discovered the bank card was missing. Two fraudulent charges were made on the bank card. ?

April 6??

Public Safety discovered damage to a crash bar pin area of a door in the Kreeger Building at 8:53 a.m. The damage suggested forced entry from a hallway. No damage was discovered inside the room. 

?Public Safety and Facilities Management responded to a fire alarm in MGC at 9:39 a.m. A contractor reported he noticed a small fire coming from an oven. He extinguished the grease fire with a fire extinguisher. The oven was damaged. No injuries were reported. ??

Public Safety responded to a report of a sick person in Kay Spiritual Center at 3:15 p.m. The individual signed a medical refusal form. ??

An envelope containing petty cash and stamps was discovered missing from an unsecured desk drawer in 3201 New Mexico Ave., NW at 12:06 p.m.

 

?Public Safety responded to a report of an injured person in Bender Arena at 7:43 p.m. The individual signed a medical refusal form. 

An individual repeatedly attempted to get on stage during a Colin Powell event in Bender Arena at 8:28 p.m. The individual signed a barring notice and was escorted off campus. 

April 7??

Four cases of beer were stolen from a Bon Appétit storage area in MGC at 8:58 p.m. ?A radio was stolen from the terrace level of TDR at 9:48 a.m. ??

Public Safety and Facilities Management responded to a fire alarm activated by a smoke detector in a Beeghly Building chemistry room at 11:54 a.m. Public Safety observed fumes rising from a glass bowl on top of a hot plate. DCFD was contacted and responded to evaluate the situation. A Hazmat team tested the air quality and deemed the area safe to be entered. The fumes were caused by sodium acetate packets (hand warmers) beginning to burn after the water they were boiling in evaporated.   ??

Public Safety responded and freed an individual from a stuck elevator in McDowell Hall at 3:34 p.m.  No injuries were reported. ?

On April 7, a former employee walked into his former office and made derogatory remarks toward staff, which was reported at 2:29 p.m. The former employee utilized a phone to make a call. When he was advised he should not use an employee’s phone to make calls, he replied, “This was my office.” The former employee asked if he could take a chair home with him. When he was told he could not take it home, he became angry and stormed out of the office. ?On March 9, the former employee had walked into the stockroom with a box of pizza. When an employee asked if he could share the pizza with him, the former employee took a knife from his pocket and said, “I would cut you if you touch my pizza.” 

DCFD transported an injured person from TDR to the hospital at 8:26 p.m.
