ESPN’s Weinstein set to visit AU

ESPN anchor and AU alumnus Bram Weinstein (SOC ’95) is coming to the Katzen Arts Center for a Feb. 2 event with AU Men's Basketball Head Coach Jeff Jones and Director of Athletics Keith Gill at 7 p.m.

“It’s going to be a chance for the AU community to get to know Bram,” Gill said. “It will be a chance for Bram to connect back with the University community, and this is all about education and an opportunity. Hopefully, our students who are interested in what Bram has been fortunate to do in his career will find a path and a spark, and can use some of the things that they learned from Bram to begin their quest or passion for their own career.”

Weinstein will discuss his ascent to ESPN prominence in “My Road to ESPN,” an event that will be free and open to the public. The audience will have an opportunity to ask questions and get insight into a career in sports journalism and broadcasting.

“It’s going to be a free-flowing kind of an event,” Gill said. “I hope there will be a lot of audience interaction. Jeff Jones and I will moderate the event and figure out some questions for him and get some insight into what you need to do to get your start, how did he break into his career and what are some of the obstacles that he had to overcome.”

The event will take place at the Abramson Family Recital Hall in Katzen.

In addition to the forum, Weinstein will be making an appearance on Jones’ weekly radio show that will record the same day.

“Bram has obviously been doing great and experienced a lot of success, and we’re proud of him being an AU grad,” Jones said. “It will be great for him to come back and visit and talk about all the success he’s had, and I’m looking forward to hearing some stories about how things work at ESPN.”

You can hear Weinstein’s appearance on Jones’ show on 1500/820 AM Federal News Radio Feb. 4. If you can’t listen live, you can listen by visiting the show’s page in the multimedia section of AUeagles.com.

“I’m excited, and I hope the students are excited because I think it’s going to be a really good event and a really good opportunity,” Gill said.
