Last April, Augustana released their third, self-titled album. After three years of waiting since their second album Can’t Love, Can’t Hurt (2008), the San Diego based band finished another album oozing with 10 good tunes.
Their sound is mainly a concoction of rock, pop and folk, but the band tends to dabble in othter genres that include indie, country and gospel. The band has adopted a more mature sound, and their music reflects this as well, focusing more on the concept of growing up and accepting change.
Over the past six years, Augustana has been consistently touring and writing songs. Since late 2005 when they debuted their first album “All The Stars and Boulevards,” Augustana has toured with other bands like Dashboard Confessional, Counting Crows, Austin Gibbs, and The Maine. From their first album, “Boston” and “Stars and Boulevards” topped the Billboard charts and earned spots in the Top 40.
A few months after their spring tour last year with The Maine, Augustana randomly announced their split over Twitter, an unexpected move that puzzled fans. Now, the band is somewhat back together and touring again with returning members Dan Layus (lead vocals, piano, guitar), Jordan Lamourex (bass guitar, keyboard, vocals), David Lamorourex (drums, keyboard, mandolin, vocals) and Jay Barclay (guitar). Opening for Augustana will be Graffitti 6 and Say Chance. Tickets for their show at 9:30 club on February 4 are still available so get them while they’re still up for grabs.
