MTV’s reality TV series “The Real World” is returning to D.C. in search of cast members for its 28th season.
The creators of the show, Bunim/Murray Productions, hosted an open casting call at Town Tavern D.C. March 30.
This year’s casting directors said they are looking for applicants who have lives that others may take for granted or that others may not quite understand such as:
• those struggling with weight issues
• those affected by a natural disaster
• recent graduates affected by economic downturn
• and others who want to bring the spotlight to a cause, condition or social issue.
“We look for characters from real life. People with strong personalities who are unafraid to speak their minds,” “Real World” Executive Producer Jonathan Murray said.
Casting directors said they are still accepting applications for those who missed the open casting. Applicants are encouraged to apply via email and visit the website online for more details. Applicants must be 20 years or older by March 1.
MTV has not yet released the exact location of the D.C. Real Worlds house or the airdate of the 28th season of “Real World.”
AU students expressed mixed emotions about the upcoming season.
College of Arts and Sciences sophomore Maddie Burkett said she was doubtful about the success of the new D.C. season of Real World.
“I think they’re changing it because no one watches it anymore, it’s boring,” she said. “It’s gotten kind of repetitive. They need a new spin to it”
However, School of Communications freshman Kimberly Cate said she is excited for the casting call and to see a classic show reach new light.
“It’ll be entertaining, that’s for sure,” she said.
