New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof will speak at AU on Sept. 10 at 8:30 p.m. in the University Club.
Kristof writes a weekly column in the Sunday edition of the New York Times on international human rights and American politics. His most recent book is “Half The Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide,” about the necessity to aid women in order to alleviate poverty. He has also co-authored two other books on east Asia.
He has also won two Pulitzer Prizes. Kristof and his wife, Sheryl WuDunn, won the award in 1990 for their coverage of the military interruption of protests in Tiananmen Square. Kristof won again in 2006 for his reporting on the genocide in Darfur, Sudan, according to the New York Times.
Sponsor of the event, the Kennedy Political Union, intended to announce the speaker on Sept. 3 at 8 p.m. But some advertisements for the event appeared on school television monitors on Aug. 30.
This is the first KPU event of the year. Last year, KPU hosted President Bill Clinton, Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano, CNN correspondent John King and R&B star John Legend.
