TV Pick: "Supernatural"

“Supernatural” has a simple premise: brothers Sam (Jared Padalecki, “Friday the 13th”) and Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles, “My Bloody Valentine”) drive across the country in a 1967 Chevy Impala to hunt evil creatures that lurk in the shadows.

However, over the past seven seasons, the Winchesters have tackled heavy issues such as family drama, demon deals, double-crossing, visits to both heaven and hell and the apocalypse itself.

“Supernatural” offers a surprising amount of thematic substance for viewers. The two leads, Ackles and Padalecki, bring incredible talent to the characters of Dean and Sam. As a character-driven show, their dynamic performances keep the viewer engaged and wanting more.

Much to the fans’ relief, Jeremy Carver (“Being Human”), a former “Supernatural” writer, has returned to the staff as showrunner, as the previous two seasons without Carver were lacking in coherence compared to earlier seasons. Carver’s concept of a season-long quest will hopefully recreate the structure that made the first five seasons great.
