Volleyball gets past Army, 3-1, to reach Patriot League Championship

First Team All-Patriot League selections Sara Rishell and Morgan Hendrix led the AU volleyball team to the Patriot League Championship, as the Eagles defeated Army, 3-1, Nov. 17 in the PL Semifinals in Hamilton, N.Y.

AU will now take on top-seeded Colgate for the title Nov. 18 at 3 p.m. The Raiders swept fourth-seeded Lehigh, 3-0, in the tournament’s first semifinal.

The Eagles, who enter the finals on an eight-game conference-winning streak, split the season series against the Raiders.

AU defeated Colgate, 3-1, in Bender Arena Nov. 9, while the Raiders swept the first match of the season between the two teams Oct. 13.

The second-seeded Eagles (21-9) cruised to a four-set semifinal win over the third-seeded Black Knights (20-9) in set scores of 25-18, 24-26, 25-17 and 25-16.

AU outhit Army .222 to .086, with Rishell recording a team-best 16 kills and Hendrix tallying 11 blocks.

Juliana Crum and Kylann Scheidt also turned in excellent performances for AU by posting double-doubles. Crum finished with 14 kills and 10 digs, while Scheidt had 39 assists to go along with 12 digs.
