Over 2,000 out-of-state law enforcement officials were sworn in and trained to work at the Jan. 21 Inauguration at Bender Arena on Jan. 20, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.
The officers come from 80 police jurisdictions and a “good portion” of the 50 states, Officer Araz Alali, Metropolitan Police Department officer and spokesperson, said.
The outside officers will be working in conjunction with MPD and the Secret Service at the Inauguration.
Officers were given the rights of a full deputy U.S. marshal for the two days of inauguration events, including the power to arrest, search and detain, Alali said.
The officers were sworn in from 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., according to a memo released by MPD.
A training session that was closed to the public followed the swearing in ceremony, according to the memo. Officers will be stationed on the National Mall, along the parade route and in other locations in the District, Alali said.
