Eagles promote Anabel Jimenez to head women's soccer coach

AU Athletics announced Feb. 25 the promotion of assistant coach and former player Anabel Jimenez to head coach of the women's soccer team.

"I am excited and honored to lead my alma mater," Jimenez told AUEagles.com.

Jimenez will take over for David Bucciero, who left AU in December 2012.

"We are pleased to have an AU alumna and former standout player as head coach of our women's soccer program, and are confident that Anabel Jimenez will lead our program to the next level of competitive success," interim director of athletics and recreation, David Taylor, told AUEagles.com

As a player, Jimenez was a four-year starter and two-year captain for the Eagles. She was a part of the 2002 squad which led the Eagles to their first Patriot League Championship while also being named tournament MVP.

Jimenez also played for teams in Germany and the U.S. in her professional career.

Jimenez served five seasons as an assistant coach for the Eagles leading the team to a 15-12-8 record in Patriot League play.

A native of the D.C. area, Jimenez resides in Rockville, Md.
