Eagles’ Regan takes first at Mount St. Mary’s Duals

The AU men’s and women’s cross country team opened the 2013 season with a victory Aug. 30 at the Mount St. Mary’s 5K Duals in Emmitsburg, Md.
The men’s team swooped the category, taking first, second and third place.

Nicholas Regan (15.30.79) returned with a first-place finish in the event, his first since posting several second and third place finishes during the 2012-2013 season. He was named Second All-Patriot League for the 2012-2013 year.

Senior John Pope (15.32.79) and freshman Brendan Johnson (15.44.80) finished back-to-back, taking second and third place.

Matiss Batarags, Joshua Ellis, Tom Woermer added to the list of Eagle runners who recorded a top 10 finish. Batarags finished in seventh with a score of 16.06.55, Ellis in eighth with a score of 16.11.19 and Woermer finished in tenth with a score of 16.23.01.

Julia Sullivan led the women’s team with 11th place, finishing the event with a 19.05.65 score. Rookie Corina Velazco came in 15th with a score of 19.15.53.

Other notable finishes for the women’s team were Carly Birkhold (19.21.94) posting a 17th place and Reagan Kolakowski coming in 20th with a score of 19.26.22

The United State Naval Academy won the women’s team event. The Eagles came in fourth out of six other competing schools.

AU will be in action next weekend at the Catholic University Invitational on Sept. 7 in Washington, D.C.
