AU field hockey drops in overtime against No. 8 Old Dominion

AU’s field hockey team was unable to complete the upset against No. 8 Old Dominion on Sept.1 in Norfolk, Va., as the Eagles dropped 2-1 in overtime to the Monarchs.

AU’s scoring was led by Shelley Montgomery’s unassisted goal at 41:14. AU keeper Dalisera played well, allowing two goals and stopped ten shots by the end.

Dalisera’s strong performance continued until the Monarchs’ Christy Longacre, with an assist by Kelsey Smither and Rosario Villagra, scored off a corner shot at 48:00.

Villagra proved to be the hero in overtime registering an unassisted goal to put the Monarchs over the Eagles.

Old Dominion outshot AU 10-5 during the second half but was unable to take the lead. After Old Dominion scored, Dalisera denied five of their attempts.

The Eagles will return to Jacobs Field for their home opener against James Madison University on Sept. 6 at 3 p.m. and Sept. 8 at 11 a.m.
