Car crashes into Tenleytown store

An 85-year-old Northwest Washington motorist crashed into the storefront of The Container Store in Tenleytown on Sept. 20, causing significant property damage.

The crash, which did not cause any injuries, occurred at 6:50 p.m. when the man lost control of his vehicle after exiting the Best Buy and The Container Store parking garage, according to a Metropolitan Police Department accident report.

The driver turned onto River Road NW, which intersects Wisconsin Avenue, before jumping the curb and hitting the side doors of The Container Store.

A witness reported that the vehicle nearly hit parked vehicles and pedestrians before jumping the curb, the report said. A traffic citation was issued to the driver.

The front and right side of the vehicle received “major damage” that required towing, according to the report.

The glass side entrance of The Container Store also sustained considerable damage, according to Store Manager Kevin Postell.

Two large pieces of glass were damaged, and it will take several weeks to order and replace the windows, Postell said.

“It did take out the entire corner of one of our entrances,” Postell said.
