Women’s soccer opens conference play with victory

The first half proved to be a defensive affair as neither team managed to score. AU (3-6-0, 1-0-0 PL)and Lehigh only managed three shots on goal each.

The second half started off with a bang as Mulhern managed to score her first goal on the season 15 yards out and less than two minutes into the half. The goal was assisted by freshman Marley Jenkins.

AU and Lehigh (2-3-1, 0-0-1) only managed a few close shots throughout the rest of the second half. At the end of it all, AU managed to pull off the gritty victory 1-0 over its conference foe.
“We just started well from the first minute until the last minute and the whistle blowing,” head coach Anabel Jimenez Hering said. “We focused on being more aggressive, going at them, keeping the ball when we have it, basically our game plan and we got lucky with it.”

The Eagles have struggled with offense this season. In their three victories on the season the Eagles have only scored one goal. The only time the Eagles managed to score more than one goal was a 3-2 overtime to LaSale earlier in the season.

The next game for the Eagles will be on Sept. 25 at home against Richmond. AU will resume conference play Sept. 28 with a road contest against Holy Cross.
