Olympic medalist to speak at AU

Correction Appended

Olympic medalist Paul Tergat will speak in the School of International Service Founder’s Room on Oct. 10 at an event hosted by the Kennedy Political Union. The athlete is also a United Nations ambassador against hunger, and a member of the International Olympic Committee.

Born in rural Kenya, Tergat attributes his athletic success to a UN food program provided to his school. The adequate nourishment gave him the ability to focus on his running and academics.

Students, faculty and staff can all attend the event with an AU ID card.

“KPU is proud to host Paul Tergat to tell us his story, explain the importance of school meal programs around the world, and share his perspectives on historic current events in Kenya,” said KPU Director Chandler Thornton in an email.

Correction: Thornton’s surname was previously misspelled.
