CollegeHumor goes from web videos to stand up in Arlington

The popular Internet duo Jake Hurwitz and Amir Blumenfeld hosted a sold-out CollegeHumor live show at the Arlington Cinema and Drafthouse with headliner Streeter Seidell on Nov. 14.

The cozy cinema was packed with fans of the website CollegeHumor as many of the attendees donned “Jake and Amir” shirts for the highly anticipated show.

Hosts Blumenfeld and Hurwitz were the first to perform. Blumenfeld got the crowd laughing from the start as he danced onto the stage.

For the most part, Blumenfeld and Hurwitz retained their personas from the web series “Jake and Amir.” Blumenfeld feigned ignorance about the town he was performing in, proclaiming how he excited he was to be in “insert town here” after he had eaten “town’s famous food at town’s famous restaurant”. Hurwitz often had to keep from chuckling as he jokingly berated Blumenfeld for his disregard for Arlington.

The pair also employed a similar structure as it did in its web series. Hurwitz portrayed Blumenfeld as a dim-witted, goofy, but harmless buffoon by narrating a fictitious story of Blumenfeld walking around the National Mall completely naked after buying all the bagels at a local bakery. Blumenfeld set up Hurwitz as an insensitive ladies’ man who shamelessly sexted a girl while she sat next to her dying aunt in the hospital.

With the crowd warmed up, Seidell took to the stage and was quick to pick on the fans at the show. He noticed AU students kissing in the front row and immediately acknowledged them.

“Kiss her again,” Seidell growled at McCoy. “Kiss her again and let daddy watch.”

When he wasn’t teasing the crowd, Seidell introduced some personal stories that he was able to spin in a comedic way. He delved into his experience with quitting smoking, how he got through it with the “Candy Crush” app on the iPhone and his frustrations with summer weather in New York
