A crowd swarmed into Mary Graydon Center’s University Club on Nov. 5 as AU’s React to Film chapter put on one of its first screenings of the year, “How To Make Money by Selling Drugs.”
The film succeeded in getting its message out in a unique form that differed from many other documentaries. Instead of guilt tripping its audience members, “How To Make Money by Selling Drugs” took on a more humorous and realistic approach, while commenting on the serious issues of the drug war.
The film featured many ex-drug “kingpins” and gang members who gave amazing insight into the American drug business, what some classified as the American dream. It also displayed a wide range of pop culture celebrities who struggled with or advocated against illegal drugs including 50 Cent, Eminem, Susan Sarandon and Woody Harrelson.
After the screening, two of the film’s stars, Eric Sterling, president of the Criminal Justice Policy Foundation, and Neil Franklin, executive director of the Law Enforcement Against Prohibition (LEAP), answered questions from the audience and gave detailed perspectives into the effects of the modern day war on drugs.
