Professor Edmund B. McCue, a member of the mathematics and statistics faculty at AU, passed away Nov. 6 at the age of 84. A memorial gathering for McCue was held on Dec. 6 in Gray Hall.
He joined the AU faculty in 1964 and retired in 1989 as a professor emeritus. McCue taught at the University of Iowa before coming to AU.
Born in Worcester, Mass., McCue attended Union College in Schenectady, N.Y., and graduated in 1950. He received his master’s in statistics from the University of Michigan in 1951 before going on to receive his Ph.D at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.
As a member of the Organization of the American States, McCue taught in Chile. He also taught in France, Denmark, Germany and Spain while on a teaching sabbatical in Europe. His knowledge and appreciation of the world prompted him to become involved as a human rights and peace activist, according to the obituary published by the funeral home where McCue’s wake was held.
McCue was an only child who never married, but was predeceased by his long time companion, Inger Henriques, who passed away in 1997.
At his request, he was laid to rest in the family plot in Millers Falls, Mass.
