Action Bronson, an up-and-coming rapper whose fame has been building since the release of his latest mixtape “Blue Chips 2” in November 2013, will be performing at the Howard Theatre on Jan. 20.
The rapper has received much criticism for the lyrical content and even album covers, denouncing his degradation of women. While his music is certainly not suitable for everyone, he seems to have found an audience that respects his drive to become one of the most recognizable rappers in the industry.
As a heavyset white rapper from NYC, Bronson already stands apart from many prominent rappers in the industry today. His passion for food and his powerfully energetic personality and stage presence help distinguish him from all the rest.
Action Bronson was born to an Albanian father and Jewish mother in Flushing, Queens. The diverse population of people in his neighborhood he was immersed within as a child led Bronson to pursue a career as a chef before he was even given any recognition as a rapper. Now, one of the unique factors about Bronson’s music is that he talks about the world-class meals that he cooks in his music, and even shows them in his videos.
Bronson is currently working on his first studio album since he signed to Vice Records/Atlantic Records in 2013; for now, the best sampling of his work can be found on his “Saaab Stories” EP and “Blue Chips 2” mixtapes.
Tickets to Action Bronson’s show at the Howard Theatre are $25 in advance and $30 the day of. Doors open at 6 p.m. with the show slated to start at 8 p.m.
