AU track and field records three first-place finishes

Three Eagle runners took home first place at the Terrapin Invitational held at the University of Maryland at College Park on Jan. 18, along with 11 top 10 finishes.

For the men’s squad, junior Nick Regan earned first place in the mile event with a time of 4:19.93. Freshman Brendan Johnson came behind Regan as the runner-up for the mile at 4:25.83, and sophomore Brandon Latham came in tenth at 4:35.28.

Junior Thomas Woermer also won an individual title for the men’s in the 3000 meter event, leading the pack at 8:49.71 with senior teammate John Pope right behind at 8:52.58.

Rounding out the men’s top-ten finishes were freshman Peter Rowe and senior Constantine Matsakis in the 800 meter run with fifth place at 1:57.78 and ninth place at 2:00.31, respectively.

For the women’s group, senior Julian Sullivan recorded individual title at the 3000 meter event with a personal best time of 10:04.21. Freshman Corina Velazco placed fifth in the event at 10:19.13.

The final two top 10 finishers for the women’s squad were senior Krystal Foster and sophomore Kelseagh Budris. Budris finished ninth in the 800 meter event at 2:25.71 while Foster finished seventh in the mile at 5:21.40.

In total standings, the men’s team placed sixth overall and the women’s squad came in at 11th. Johns Hopkins took home first place for men’s with 117 total points while Maryland came in first in the women’s standings with 170 points.

The Eagles track and field team’s next competition will be the George Mason Patriot Games in Fairfax, Va. on Feb. 1.
