Doug Gansler, Keith Tilley to speak at Dems event

AU College Democrats will host two speakers at its annual Spring Semester Kickoff to promote student participation in politics.

Doug Gansler, Maryland’s attorney general and Washington College of Law professor, and Keith Tilley, deputy director of the LGBT leadership council and national finance coordinator for the Democratic National Committee, will speak at the event, said Joey Larrinaga, press secretary for AU College Democrats.

“We chose these two men because they have a specific knowledge of politics [and] on how our generation can get involved,” Larrinaga said.

Tilley will speak about how students can get involved with the Democratic Party, and Gansler will speak about youth engagement in politics, Larrinaga said. Gansler will be running in the 2014 Maryland’s gubernatorial race, but he will not be speaking about his campaign at the meeting, Larrinaga said.

“Our number one priority is to get people involved and caring about politics,” Larrinaga said.

The event will be held on Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. in the Butler Board Room.
