Update: 12:17 p.m.
Starbucks is now open.
Original story
Starbucks will open on campus next week, filling the vacant spot left by McDonald’s almost two years ago.
However, the opening date of the store has not yet been confirmed, according to AU Dining Services Marketing Manager Adam Fox.
The new Starbucks is spacious with flashy vanity lights illuminating company products, and fresh drinks and snacks laid out inside the refrigerator next to the coffee bar. A long table and chairs are set out near the store windows with booths lining the right wall against a fake bookshelf, adding to a small café setting.
But the Starbucks has personal touches as well. A chalkboard with “American University happenings” hangs above condiments counter, where students can get sugar and milk for their drinks.
At the end of the booths, students can search for AU- and Starbucks-themed terms in a giant chalkboard word search puzzle that AU Dining services added to the back wall.
The store’s operating hours will be:
-7:30 a.m. to midnight, Monday through Friday
-9 a.m. to midnight, Saturday and Sunday
The Eagle previously reported the new location will accept:
-Eagle Bucks
-Dining Dollars
-Starbucks gift cards
The new shop will be looking for student baristas, according to Fox.
