The Department of Performing Arts will hold a special matinee showing of “The Alchemist,” on Feb. 16 at 1 p.m. The show was initially scheduled to perform Feb. 13 through 15, but was postponed due to the inclement weather.
The department began discussing contingency plans on Feb. 12 for the performances to ensure “The Alchemist” and “Rent” in case of school closings, according to an email sent by Sybil Roberts, professional lecturer in the Department of Performing Arts. Although “Rent” rehearsals have been delayed, the show is still scheduled to debut Feb. 20.
“The best resolution is the Sunday matinee that allows for compliance with University regulations and offers the opportunity for us to present this important Greenberg production,” Roberts said in an email.
Feb. 13 and 14 tickets to “The Alchemist” may be exchanged for “Inherit the Wind” or the Spring Dance show.
AU shut down its services as well as other faculty services and transport shuttles on Feb. 13 and 14 due to the weather, The Eagle previously reported.
“The Alchemist” by Ben Jonson tells the story of proto-science and greed with its first performance in 1610.
The show is directed by DPA assistant professor Karl Kippola with music conducted by Yaniv Dinur, assistant professor in the DPA.
