Sullivan leads AU runners at Patriot Games

The AU men’s and women’s track teams placed four top-five finishers Feb. 1 at the George Mason Patriot Games in Fairfax, Va.

For the women’s team, senior Julia Sullivan led AU runners, finishing second place in the 1,000 meter run with a personal best time of 2:57:42. That time was also the fifth fastest in program history.

Freshman Corina Velazco also showed good results, finishing No. 8 in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 10:26:17.

The women’s relay team impressed as well, placing third as a team of sophomore Kelseagh Budris, Velazco, sophomore Anike Oladeji and Sullivan recorded a time of 9:30.84, also recording the fifth fastest time in program history.

For the men’s team, junior Nick Regen led AU runners finishing No. 4 in the mile while recording a time of 4:16:54. Senior Constantine Matsakis also finished in the top 10 for the mile, finishing seventh with a time of 4:18:07.

In the 1,000 meter run, freshman Peter Rowe recorded a fifth place finish with a time of 2:30:94. In the 800 meter run, freshman Liam May finished ninth with a personal best time of 2:00:03.

The next meet for the Eagles will take place on Feb. 7 and 8 as they go to New York for the New Balance Collegiate Invitational.
