Wurm headlines swimmers at Navy Invitational

In their last match before the Patriot League, the AU swimming and diving team performed at an unscored meet in Annapolis, Md. on Feb. 1.

Senior Matt Wurm continued his strong last season campaign with a No. 3 overall finish in the men’s 200 IM. With 1:54.44 Wurm was less than a second behind Army’s Brendan Lorton and two seconds behind another Army man first place finisher Richard Xue. Wurm also finished fourth in men’s 200-yard backstroke.

Senior Bobby Balance wasn’t far behind finishing eighth in the 200 IM at 1:59.09.

Sophomore Dylan Rasnick placed seventh out of 14 competitors in the men’s 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:17.23. He was followed by fellow Eagle sophomore Toby McCarroll at 2:17.87

On the women’s side sophomore Paris Wood finished second overall in the women’s 100-yard backstroke with 59.20.Sophomore Ellie Liang and freshman Caylee Watson placed eighth and ninth respectively in the same event.

Fellow sophomore Celeste Borras placed No. 3 in women’s 100-yard breaststroke. Borras was joined in the top 10 by freshman Alexis Danchack.

In her first season freshman Karla Hernandez-Mejia finished No. 12 in the women’s 100-yard butterfly, edging out freshman Katie Kudlac by three one-hundredths of a second.

Other top 5 finishes included freshman Kudlac and Borras tied for fourth place in women’s 200 yard breaststroke.

In the women’s 200 yard medley relay the team of Borras, Wood, Watson and Julianna Cavano placed eighth out of 24 other teams with a time of 1:52.61

The four-day Patriot League Championships will begin Feb. 19 at the U.S. Naval Academy Academy in Annapolis, Md.
