Regan leads AU track with win at Navy Spring Invitational

The men’s and women’s track teams competed at the Navy Spring Invitational in Annapolis, Md. March 23.

The men’s team was led by junior Nick Regan’s first place finish in the 1,500 meter run, achieving a personal best time of 3:56.92. Freshman Peter Rowe finished fourth in the event with a time of 3:59.99. AU senior Mattis Bataragas placed sixth in the event with a time of 4:03.27 and sophomore Josha Ellis’ time of 4:04.00 obtained seventh.

Senior John Pope finished second in the 5,000 meter with a time of 14:42.94.

Junior Thomas Woermer and senior Constantine Matsakis also finished in the top five of their respective events. Woermer finished fourth in the 10,000 meter run with a time of 31:36.00.

The women’s team was led by senior Krystal Foster who finished third in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 18:06.25.

Rookie track runners impressed with top 10 finished. Freshman Cassidy Hart finishing sixth with a time of 18:36.72. Freshman Corina Velazco claimed fifth place in the 1,500 meter race with a time of 4:44.55.

Overall, in the men’s events, AU placed fourth with 29 points. Host Navy finished in first with 329 points

In the women’s events, AU finished fifth with 18 points. Navy finished first with 325 points.

The next meet for AU will be the Maryland Invitational taking place March 29 in College Park, Md.
