The Weekend Scene: Feb. 27- Mar. 1

This weekend is particularly packed with a bunch of great things happening around the city and on campus. Need burlesque, the Black Cat’s got that. Want to mosh? Sunday is totally mosh-worthy.

Mid-terms are around the corner. Make sure you get the most out of your weekends before the only place to turn up is Club Lib.

Under the Sheets: Comedy Burlesque and Variety at the Black Cat

Sometimes you might think there are no surprises left in the District, then events like Under the Sheets happens. Combining a cast of the “ambassador of skin” Cherie Sweetbottom, Kiki Allure, GiGi Holliday and Aurora Wells, Under the Sheets put laughs and innuendo on the Black Cat stage. The revue is headed by D.C.’s own Glam Gamz and Dutch Oven--renegades in burlesque hilarity. Skip the bar crawl or dance floor and see this performance for $12 in advance or $15 at the door.

Linda Hesh’s All Gay Review at Hillyer Art Space

Linda Hesh brings Dupont Circle’s history in D.C.’s LGBTQA community to the neighborhood’s Hillyer Art Space. The exhibit takes a 70’s aesthetic as Hesh sets up interactive features for participants. Patrons can take pictures of themselves and take part in experiencing a need for LGBTQA rights through the lens of a straight, female ally. Free.

When: Friday and Saturday, Feb. 27- 28, noon to 6 p.m.

D.C. Intercollegiate Literary Conference at AU

Join AU’s literary magazine, AmLit, for its first intercollegiate literary conference happening in Butler Board Room. The conference is a first for AU and AmLit and also the D.C.-Maryland-Virginia area. Speakers from the Faulkner Foundation, Lines + Stars, the Washington Independent Review of Books and more will be present throughout the event. If you can’t stay throughout the whole thing, pop in when you can. The free event will have a publishing panel in the morning and a D.C. Literary panel in the early afternoon. Bring a friend or your lit major crush.

When: Saturday, Feb. 28, 9:30 a.m., last event 1:30 p.m.

WVAU Winter/Spring Open Mic at AU

It’s pretty clear WVAU throws some pretty dope events. Remember Ace Cosgrove and every single Live in the Hive? The award-winning station is holding its second open mic for the year and with each open mic comes the best musical, comedic and poetic talent on campus. You might even shed a tear if Boon performs. Come out for the free event and possibly perform your own stuff. There’s still time to sign up.

When: Saturday, Feb. 28, 7:00 p.m.

Where: Battelle Atrium

Pile, Moor Mother, The Effects and Radiator King at Union Arts DC

Sludge, ripper rock, punk , art rock and so-called “improvisational soundscapes” are all happening this Sunday at Union Arts D.C. This might be the most alt you’ll ever get this weekend and it’ll be worth it. Before you have to start the week all over again, release some stress in the mosh pit or find a greasy-haired DIY babe to fall in love with. You can bond over which obscure bands you like better. $8.
