D.C’s international LGBTQ film festival debuts tonight

GALA Hispanic/Tivoli Theatre will host the 23rd annual Reel Affirmations film festival starting tonight at 7 p.m. and ending on Sunday. This year, the festival will include 35 new films, with movie contributions from ten countries.

The festival focuses on films with LGBTQ storylines and prominent queer characters. The three-day event will also feature panel discussions, filmmaker question and answer sessions and VIP celebrations.

Reel Affirmations aims to bring the stories, struggles and accomplishments of LGBTQ people to the big screen, fostering a sense of community among the queer community, according to the festival’s mission statement. The festival is sponsored by the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, the Office of GLBT affairs and the Office of Motion Picture and Television Development.

Students can buy tickets online beginning at $10.
