Bill Nye to speak at AU on Feb. 9

The popular scientist will speak to students in Bender Arena

Scientist Bill Nye will speak at AU in Bender Arena on Feb. 9 in an event co-hosted by the Kennedy Political Union and the College of Arts and Sciences, according to a KPU press release.

Nye, perhaps most famously known as “Bill Nye the Science Guy” from his Disney show that aired from 1993-1998, is still a prominent figure on television and in the news, often discussing climate change, space exploration and evolution. He also has honorary degrees from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, John Hopkins University, Willamette University, Rutgers University and Lehigh University.

The event will begin at 8:15 pm and will include remarks from Nye followed by a Q and A session, according to the press release. Tickets for the event must be reserved through EventBrite.

Nye’s appearance is part of KPU’s increased efforts this year to include speakers from a wide variety of subject areas and to collaborate with multiple colleges within the University, according to the release.

“Bill Nye’s remarkable career in science and entertainment has educated Americans across the country on pressing matters, including climate change, arguably one of the most important issues to American University students and advocacy organizations,” KPU Communications Director Coby Eiss said in the release.
