Finnish singer to perform at AMFest this weekend

Peppina shared her music background with The Eagle before her show.

This afternoon, AU Student Union Board will partner with over a dozen student organizations on campus to showcase a series of performances from RDGLDGRN to Matt Hunter to Calm and Crisis and more. Peppina, a 20-year-old singer from Finland, will also take the stage in the amphitheater during the event, and The Eagle caught up up Peppina to talk about her journey as an artist and upcoming performance at AU’s first ever, AMFest.

Originally hailing from Finland, Peppina cites her cultural background and its relation to American culture as a major source of inspiration for her work. After being discovered at the age of 16 on HitRECord, the collaborative online production company founded by Joseph Gordon Levitt and invited to the U.S. perform, Peppina has been on a whirlwind of success and musical discovery. Peppina said this unique platform allowed her to share her music on a global scale without fear of judgement, which inspired her and allowed her to explore her capabilities as an artist, showing the power of social media.

Although she holds an undoubted love and appreciation for Finland, Peppina mentions that she’s especially appreciative of English for its ability to be more accessible to people across the world.

Peppina said she is beyond excited and in awe every day of the opportunities she’s had to perform in front of such large audiences in the U.S., coming from a small island outside of Helsinki. With a calm energy and humble notes to everything she spoke of, Peppina presents herself in a mature manner that extends beyond her twenty years. Peppina’s work is honest and true to her experiences, while also feeling very relatable to listeners. In her latest EP, “Follow Your Gravity,” Peppina explores her emotions on her journey from Finland to the U.S. on a quest to to follow her dreams. She describes this EP as an album about her time producing music, touching on not only the wonderful moments that journey entails, but also the scary moments that come with putting yourself in the public eye. Peppina said she sought to be honest with herself and her listeners in this EP and share about all of the changes in her life and her excitement to continue her musical career.

Giving us a glimpse into her upcoming work, her first full length LP, “Peppina” described her next release as having a much more indie pop rock vibe. With an anticipated release of sometime this summer, she hopes to continue making work that grows with her.

Make sure to check out Peppina’s performance presented by Live Sound Club, among several other talented artists this Saturday at AU’s first ever AMFest.
