Cherry blossom fever has officially swept the city, and while the trees may have reached peak bloom, the celebration of culture and the coming season continues until April 17. National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade
The annual National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade is a must-see event, whether you are new to the city or a longtime resident. Watch in fascination as vibrant floats and lively performances march past D.C.’s most renowned landmarks. Notable performances for this year’s festival include cast members from the musical “Jersey Boys”, “The Voice” contestants Sisaundra Lewis and Meghan Lindsey and Miss America 2016 Betty Cantrell, not to mention plenty of local talents. Be sure to arrive early for prime viewing spots. Grandstand Seating costs between $20 and $30, but standing along the parade route is free.

National Parks Adventure Cherry Blossom IMAX Screening
If you need to rest your feet amidst the chaos of the celebrations, this film screening offers the ideal opportunity to take a break while still reveling in picturesque landscapes. In honor of the National Parks Service’s 100th anniversary, National Parks Adventure takes audiences on a 3D exploration of America’s most striking spectacles, including D.C.’s cherry blossom trees. This exclusive screening features an introduction by a National Mall Park Ranger, prizes and more. The screening costs $9, but you can use the code Blossom2016 for $2 off your ticket.

Sakura Matsuri- Japanese Street Festival
Those wishing to commemorate the history behind the cherry blossom trees should head to Sakura Matsuri and enjoy the effervescent street festival. In partnership with the Japan-America Society of Washington, D.C., this massive explosion of Japanese culture brings together performers from all over the world to showcase arts and traditions for festival goers. The festivities include live music, dancing, more than 200 martial arts performers and food and art vendors selling authentic cuisine and trinkets. During Sakura Matsuri, kids of all ages are welcome to create handmade Japanese lanterns at the festival’s Lantern Making Family Day. Tickets are $10 for adults and free for children under 12.

Nightowls and pop culture enthusiasts should venture into downtown D.C. after the festival and get a glimpse into the best of Japan’s gaming, fashion, art and food scenes. For participants 21 and older, the high energy event includes a late-night dance party, where guests can let loose in a sensational experience of live music performances inspired by Japanese culture. The event costs $20 for general admission, and tickets for the 21+ Cherry Blast Dance Party are $25.

This year’s Cherry Blossom Festival concludes with the second annual Anacostia River Festival, presented by the National Park Service and 11th Street Bridge Park. The festival hopes to encourage D.C. natives and visitors to the city to explore America’s beloved parks. Festivities include outdoor activities and hands-on programs for everyone, such as kayaking, art projects, fishing workshops and much more. Entry to the festival is free.
