Senator Susan Collins (R-Maine) will be the Kennedy Political Union’s first speaker of the year on Sept. 8. The event is co-sponsored by the AU College Republicans, per a KPU press release.
Collins has served in Congress since 1996 and is known for her success working across party lines. In 2015, she was named the most bipartisan member of the U.S. Senate by the Lugar Center and Georgetown University. Collins has participated in each of the 6,000 votes that have come through her office.
As the most senior Republican woman in the Senate and the nineteenth most senior Senator overall, Collins is noted for her experience working on issues related to homeland security, national defense, disaster response, education, business development, healthcare and issues of importance to senior citizens, according to the release.
Collins will address students in MGC rooms 2-5 at 7 p.m., with doors opening at 6 p.m. She will have a Q-and-A session with the audience following her remarks.
