KPU to host musician and actor Lonnie “Common” Lynn

Common will speak in Bender Arena on April 5

Hip-hop artist and activist Lonnie “Common” Lynn will speak in Bender Arena on April 5, the Kennedy Political Union announced today.

Common is best known for his Grammy nominated music with artists like John Legend and Kanye West. Legend and Common’s song, “Glory,” was featured in “Selma” and named Best Original Song at the 2015 Oscars. He’s released nine albums, most recently “Black America Again.”

In 2007, he launched the Common Ground Foundation, an organization that serves urban youth. He is the author of three children’s books.

“Common is able to represent a different side of our school including students in Kogod and CAS and of course since becoming director it has been my top priority to bring diverse speakers,” KPU Director Valeria Ojeda said in the release.

The event will begin at 8:00 p.m. on April 5 in Bender Arena. A free Eventbrite ticket and valid AU ID is required for entry for current AU students.
