American University mourns death of senior Hayley Mullins

Mullins played soccer for AU

Hayley Mullins, a senior in the School of Communication and soccer player, died suddenly Oct. 28 in her home in West Hartford, Connecticut, the Office of Campus Life announced Tuesday in a campus-wide email.

Mullins graduated from Hall High School, where she played soccer and lacrosse. She was named Most Outstanding Athlete her senior season at Hall, according to AU Athletics. At AU, she played defense for the school’s Division I soccer team.

She is survived by her parents, Danny and Barbara Mullins, and her brother, Christopher Mullins, according to an obituary published by the Hartford Courant.

“The American University Department of Athletics and Recreation sends its deepest sympathies to the family, friends and teammates of Hayley Mullins,” AU Athletics said in an email to The Eagle. “We share in the sadness being felt over her tragic loss.”

Students in need of support can visit the Counseling Center or the Dean of Students staff. Both offer drop-in hours weekdays from 2-4 p.m. Chaplains in the Kay Spiritual Life Center are also available.

Funeral services will be held on Nov. 2 at 10 a.m. at The Church of St. Timothy in West Hartford, Connecticut.
