AU community mourns loss of student Jayme Schlenker

Schlenker was active in Jewish LGBTQ organization

The Office of Campus Life informed the campus community of the passing of Jayme Schlenker, a recent AU graduate, in a memo on Sunday.

Schlenker passed away on Aug. 11, but the cause of his death was not identified in the email. He majored in literature with a minor in Jewish studies. Schlenker was an active member of the campus organization ReJEWvenate. He worked within the organization to provide support for students at the intersection of sexuality, gender and the Jewish faith.

Jayme “was an amazing man that was willing to help out others to a fault. When he spoke, it meant something; idle and careless chatter was not his thing,” said friend Cameron Wheeler in the campus-wide email.

There will be a community memorial service for Jayme at 10 am on Friday, August 23 at Adas Israel Congregation, 2850 Quebec St., NW. All are welcome to attend.
