AUPD reports armed robbery involving AU student near Nebraska Hall

MPD is investigating an armed robbery at knifepoint

The American University Police Department reported an armed robbery at knifepoint on Nebraska Avenue Sunday evening.

Elizabeth Deal, assistant vice president for community and internal communication, confirmed that the victim was an AU student.

“The incident occurred outside of campus and the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) is leading the investigation,” Deal said in a statement to The Eagle.

The robbery took place in the 3800 block of Nebraska Avenue, near AU’s Nebraska Hall, at approximately 5:30 p.m., the report said.

“We are providing the student with support during this time and will assist MPD as needed,” Deal said.

The alert was sent in an email to the AU community Monday. No other robberies were listed on AUPD’s crime logs, but three incidents of theft on Nebraska Avenue have been reported during the fall semester, one occurring outside of Nebraska Hall in September.
