American University student Kris Emmanuel Estrada, 19, who was reported missing by friends on Sunday, has been found safe, according to an email from Vice President of Student Affairs Raymond Ou and Assistant Vice President of University Police Service and Emergency Management Phil Morse.

“We are thankful to share that the student reported missing yesterday has been safely located,” Ou and Morse said. “We are continuing to provide support to the student and family.”

Estrada was last seen in person near Wagshal’s on New Mexico Avenue Northwest on Thursday, July 25 at 4:43 p.m. A flyer posted by friends said his last reported location was Rockville, Maryland, on Thursday, July 25 at 5:30 p.m.

According to an Instagram post by AU Senator-at-large Kaden Ouimet, Estrada informed his friends he would return by Thursday night. Estrada’s friends had been unable to contact him since roughly 4 p.m. Thursday.

In an email to the student body, AU Student Government provided physical details about Estrada, including height, weight, hair and eye color. Estrada is 5’ 4” with brown eyes and dark brown hair and is estimated to be between 120-130 lbs.

Estrada’s friends asked anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact the AU Police Department at (202) 885-2527.

SG also asked students to contact AUPD or other listed contacts with any information they may have.

Ou and Morse said in an email Sunday that they were aware of “unconfirmed reports about a student potentially being missing.” Ou and Morse further added that AUPD and Student Affairs activated protocol according to the Missing Student Notification Policy “to collect information and determine the facts of the matter.”

Estrada is a rising sophomore in the School of Public Affairs and originally from Santa Clara County, California.

Estrada is a member of the Undergraduate Senate and the vice chair of the Committee on Campus and Student Life. He is also a member of the campus acapella group On A Sensual Note.

“We love Kris so much, and hope that he is found quickly. Even if you do not have information to report, we ask that you keep Kris in your thoughts,” SG said in an email.
